SIHH 2012: Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph

With the Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph, Jaeger-LeCoultre is introducing a new water-resistant watch that reinterprets a famous classic – the Memovox Deep Sea. This nod to the past illustrates how the watchmaker has chosen to follow the current fashion for retro-styled pieces.

Featuring a 40.5mm case which pays heed to the current desire for slightly smaller timepieces, the chronograph’s lines express “historical loyalty” and testify to the proud sporting heritage of the brand. The fixed bezel surrounds a black dial face, with a Plexiglas watch glass to protect it. The hour-markers and hands are covered by an orange-tinted Superluminova coating (note the similarity to the luminescent coating on the 1959 Memovox Deep Sea). As with the original, the back of the stainless steel case is decorated with a frogman surrounded by bubbles – and the embossed black calfskin leather strap is visually identical to its forebear.

The watch is driven by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 751G, with such state-of-the-art developments as a large, variable-inertia balance, and ceramic ball-bearings to ensure long-term operation without lubrication.

The Deep Sea Vintage Chrono demonstrates that Jaeger-LeCoultre has once again managed to combine a classic design with modern mechanics.
