Description
This 550A Spyder reproduction was built in 2011 by Thunder Ranch, and spent its first 10 years as a Thunder Ranch dealer demo, hence the low miles. The car is powered by a 2.0-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and is finished in silver with Pan Americana Mexico race livery over a red and gray interior. Equipment includes dual Weber carburetors, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a tonneau cover, chrome 15″ wheels (with removed center caps which convey with the car), front disc brakes, bucket seats, and Crow race harness lap belts. This Spyder reproduction is offered in Texas with a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC that lists the car as a 1955 Recreation Replica 550 Spyder.
The fiberglass body covers a Beck-sourced tube-frame chassis and is finished in silver with Pan Americana Mexico race livery vinyl graphics. Exterior features include headlight guards, chrome-finished windshield and headlight trim, twin rear grilles, leather engine-cover straps, and a single center-mounted exhaust outlet. An uninstalled side-view mirror is included in the sale.
Chrome 15″ steel wheels are fitted with 185/65 front and 205/60 rear Falken Ziex ZE 912 tires. Stopping power is provided by front disc brakes and rear drums.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in red vinyl with gray-carpeted floors and door panel inserts. Equipment includes a black tonneau cover, sliver lap belts, a windshield-mounted rear-view mirror, and exposed shift linkages.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel wears a Porsche crest center and fronts a body-color dashboard that houses a 130-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 575 miles which is believed to be the total mileage since the build was completed. Approximately 130 miles were added under current ownership.
The 2.0-liter Volkswagen Type 1 flat-four is equipped with dual Weber carburetors, a spin-on oil filter, a Euromax alternator, and various polished and chrome-finished components. A carburetor adjustment and fluid services were performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional underbody photos are available in the gallery.
