In 1956, after having built 67 D-Types which won several competitions (including the 24 hours of Le Mans), Jaguar decided to build a powerful and light sportscar from the 25 remaining XKD bodies… This was the birth of the XK Super Sport.
Only 16 exemplars actually came out of the production lines. Nine others were destroyed in a factory fire in 1957. In 2016, the Jaguar Classic department rebuilt the 9 missing XKSSs identical to the original ones. Each “continuation” XKSS sold for £1.3 million.

The XKSS was the most powerful production car of its time with its 3.4 litre in-line 6-cylinder engine producing 250bhp and remained the envy of an elite few, due to its high price and rarity…The most famous owner was Steve McQueen.
He acquired the XKSS713 (XKD 569 in Type D form) in 1958 for $5,000 (today its value exceeds $10 million). Originally cream in color with a red interior, he had it repainted in British Racing Green with a black leather interior by Tony Nancy who was known for his Hot Rods. He also asked his friend Von Dutch to make a glove box for his sunglasses and cigarettes.
The Jaguar XKSS will remain his favorite in his car collection. After selling it in 1967 to acquire a Ferrari 275 GTB/4, McQueen missed it so much that he bought it back in 1978 and kept it until his death in 1980.

The model here presented is a Jaguar XKSS « Evocation » built on a RAM chassis from the 80s. The body is in aluminium and all the mechanics are original Jaguar. The engine is a 3.8 litre 6-cylinder and the gearbox is a modern 5 speed for a better driving pleasure. The 16 inch wheels and Dunlop tyres are identical to those of the time.
Thanks to its British Racing Green body and customised interior identical to the one designed by Tony Nancy, you will be able to feel the same sensations as Steve McQueen on Sunset Boulevard at that time.
