The MGA was the first genuinely modern MG. Its steel construction and sleek, rounded styling brought the company fully up to date with its competition, yet it remained a true roadster with snap-in side curtains and no outside door handles. Naturally it became a worldwide favorite, as truly one of the sports cars that generations of enthusiasts cut their teeth upon; some 57,000 were produced over a seven-year run, and many of them were exported to the United States.

The first automobile that Mr. Taylor ever personally owned was a MGA coupe that he drove during service in the U.S. Army in the mid-1960s. His current MGA, a Mk I roadster, was previously owned by Don H. Hoeft of Wylie, Texas, then acquired by Mr. Taylor in 1990; it has now been in his care for 32 years, longer than almost any other vehicle. In its previous ownership the car had undergone a ground-up restoration in what were reported to be its original colors, deep red with tan leather seats, and is equipped with Dunlop-style Dayton stainless steel-spoked wire wheels, 'radio delete,' and both a black vinyl top and side curtains. The overall level of detail is quite pleasing throughout, with proper silver welting on the fenders and original trim still intact under the rocker panels, showing that this was likely a very good, solid original dry-climate car prior to its restoration. The interior is very attractive, with the odometer recording 4,134 miles at the time of cataloging, and the steering wheel is uncracked. Accompanying is a small history file as well as a matching spare wire wheel with tire, Shelly jack, and engine crank.

This would be a wonderful driver's MGA to enthusiastically enjoy. Perhaps the next owner can equal Mr. Taylor's record of ownership!
